Giving Tuesday

The international #GivingTuesday initiative developed in Ukraine by Zagoriy Foundation. It studies, systematizes, and scales up strategic social responsibility practices.

Background

The concept of Giving Tuesday emerged in the US in 2012. It was the Tuesday after Black Friday and Thanksgiving. On Giving Tuesday, people and companies donate to charity and show their engagement in relevant social issues. The form and scope of assistance may vary, but what matters most is cooperation, unity, and the opportunity not only to receive but also to give.

Giving Tuesday came to Ukraine in 2018, being initiated by Kateryna Zagoriy and supported by Zagoriy Foundation, charitable foundation “Tabletochki,” Dobrodiy Club, and Ukrainian Forum of Philanthropists. It aimed to develop the culture of charity among Ukrainians.

In the face of the full-scale invasion, Giving Tuesday transformed from a day of good deeds into a day when businesses, foundations, and individuals recap their charitable activities over the past year.

Mission

Fostering the culture of strategic social responsibility and create an environement where engagement is a norm for today and a foundation for decisions tomorrow.

Goals

Giving Tuesday in Ukraine explores business practices in the area of corporate social responsibility, creative approaches to charity, volunteer initiatives, and partnerships between the business sector, the state, and the nonprofit sector while sharing these insights in the Blog of Engagement. All of this represents Ukraine’s experience that must be preserved and scaled up with the help of a community of engaged citizens.

On Giving Tuesday, December 3, 2024, the conference “The Engaged: CSR in Ukraine” was held in Kyiv, bringing together over 300 participants. Speakers at the event included representatives from Kormotech, MHP Hromadi, Uklon, Nova Poshta, KSE, Come Back Alive, and over 40 other speakers.

Giving Tuesday, together with Zagoriy Foundation, also holds the annual conference “The Engaged.”

Over 2024–2025, the event gathered more than 700 participants from the business, public, and civic sectors. At these conferences, the Guide to CSR and the results of annual national charity surveys were presented.

Join the community of engaged people working together to shape the future!
